One for the Ages

Huge props (no pun intended) to US Airways pilot Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III today for making today's crash landing of Flight 1549 a "Miracle on the Hudson" -- truly remarkable. All 155 lives on board saved. I remember spending a few days right next to the Hudson while on a basketball trip to West Point over Thanksgiving 1996. That was November, and it was cold. Today, those people survived in water that was 36 degrees.

The article states he's an AFA Grad. That's always good for recruiting.

Seriously, what a miracle today.

A Jappy Farewell

We knew changes were on the way, but sad to see Jappy Oliver out at Notre Dame. Jappy (bio) coached under Fisher DeBerry at the AFA while I was in school, so I vividly remember running into him at the Field House on numerous occasions. Great guy. When he landed a job at ND with Charlie Weis, we all thought that was pretty cool.

Jobs Report

On a more serious note, wishing good luck to CEO Steve Jobs of Apple. My how speculation and actual reporting of his health affects the daily rise and fall of Apple’s stock (link). Lord knows America’s economy needs Jobs and Apple standing strong. Maybe I will invest in some Apple after all to support the team.

fixed: iTunes

So I changed back a setting to opposite of what iTunes states, and got the burning to work tonight. Made the primary and secondary IDE channels set to PIO and not DMA as advertised. The fix worked for tonight anyway. Still glad I haven't given in and purchased any iGizmo ...

iTunes no more ...

I give up. iTunes can no longer burn to a CD (guess I'm a bit "old school") ... on my machine anyway. After spending all evening trying to fix this probem (that's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back) using http://www.virtualcd-online.com/vcd/apps/support/cforum.cfm?forumid=106811&lg=0&lgView=0 as a pretty decent consolidated source, nothing works. I think it's iTunes' ploy to prevent users from burning to CD ever again. What happen to backing up your data? Or maybe my computer is just already too "old". pshh.

I guess this is as good of a time as any to make a move to another music management program ... and one that doesn't create m4p files, to boot. I'll lleave that to another day, however. Good riddance and good night.
