Cool is Cool

Apparently "cool" is still cool.

Cool.

Rabbit Run … back to Disney, that is

If the fact that Kornheiser will be calling MNF games next year isn't crazy enough? Now get this. ESPN and its parent company, Disney, traded Al Michaels to NBC in return for four Ryder Cups, increased usage of Olympic highlights, and finally, and the most craziest of all, rights to the cartoon character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Interesting.

I was wondering what the heck Kornheiser was talking about today when he mentioned he’d be watching Oswald the Lucky Rabbit tonight. Kornheiser's so witty.

But the best quote of the day came from Michaels himself: "I'm going to be a trivia answer someday." Al, very good chance you already were with your great run in the biz.

Shock the Monkey

The holiday hangover and January funk are, well, they’re over. I think the fact that Fox News moved to XM the first of the year really threw me into a tizzy right from the start. Dale and I don’t drink coffee, but we all of have our morning routines. Mine was listening to Fox and Friends via Sirius satellite radio on my way to work. (Now that we’re on Eastern Time, I could do this.) Apparently though, Sirius pissed off Fox News so they moved to XM. Oh well. Mike and Mike in the Morning to the rescue. Amazingly, it’s a 4-hour show, 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. They’re on your cable television, channel ESPN2, and on your ESPN radio. Pretty cool, if you like them that is of course. Greenberg is pretty entertaining, and Golic is a Domer, so we like it.

Another entertainment piece we enjoy in 2006: the situational comedy, Love Monkey. We haven’t missed a single episode thanks to DV-R. This great new show that first aired on CBS January 16th stars Tom Cavanaugh and Jason Priestley, plus many more great actors and cameo appearances by several great musicians. It also features the character “Wayne” who is actually real life singer and songwriter, Teddy Geiger. He sounds a lot like John Mayer, and his tunes that are out there now are quite appealing (to those of us stuck in the pathetic pit of popular music fans anyway). I was victim to downloading his first single (“For You I Will”) from iTunes last night. Apparently, he’s not releasing his full album until March 21, 2006. Pretty clever to put a young rising talent in a sitcom though, don’tcha think? Reality and non-reality television collide. Dale is a huge fan of 90210, music, and comedy, so Love Monkey is a great fit. And this Tuesday, Tom Farrell (Cavanaugh) sported the same ND sweatshirt that Dale owns, so just another reason to dig the show. Does it really get any better than that?

Unfortunately, the real life ND men’s hoops team hasn’t been nearly as hot on our television set, having lost their eight Big East games by a combined 26 points. The Big East though, c’mon ya’ll. It’s a ridiculous conference filled with basketball powerhouses. Everyone is struggling. I wonder how Air Force would fare. Guess we’ll find out in the NCAA tournament (keep your fingers crossed). Unfortunately, Air Force has been struggling of late too. On the other hand, the women are on the rise. Very, very cool to see them winning.
