The Final Countdown

Well, “my little pretties” (that is for our favorite Tony Kornheiser), the big game is just about here. The televised on ESPNews (wow) pep rally is now over. Maybe a little too hyped with too many rumors about possible mystery guests, but overall, it still got us fans that much more excited for the game. Charlie was by far the best speaker. He’s the man. (Speaking of the man, credit to the photo above goes to someone unknown out in cyberspace ... so clever, it had to be shared again.)

Now on to predictions. Let’s see … for our last set of predictions, which was for the Purdue game (already two weeks ago), it was Dale guessing 37-34 (ND) and Renae going with 34-28 (ND). Actual score: 49-28. I think Renae was the winner there, what do you think?

For tomorrow’s game, Dale predicts USC over ND (48-41) and Renae is calling ND over USC, 38-35. We gave our predictions just prior to Dale flipping to the predictions page in his Blue and Gold Illustrated this afternoon. I guessed the same, 38-35, ND. Guessing the same prediction as B&G has never happened before. I say it was a sign.

One important game note (at least to me). According to ESPN polling, both the states of Montana and New York (along wit the majority of the country) are picking an ND upset. I hope they are right.

Go Irish!

Like Michigan football helmets ...

Yes, ND won again last weekend, but it being a late game prevented me from making a blog. So they are 4-1 and play undefeated (as of today) USC next Saturday in primetime on ESPN HD. Gameday will be there. Kirk Herbstreet has jumped on the bandwagon and rumor has it, called them “his Irish.” Of course we have Lou too, but we know about the rest of them.

At any rate, tonight let me move on to a different topic because I feel like venting some of my pet peeves (maybe it will help me better deal with them). How about my top five? These are just a few things that I am sure most of us have to deal with about every day. Nevertheless, like University of Michigan football helmets, they still annoy me …

1. Poor cell phone etiquette. Did you know July is cell phone etiquette month? I wish it were July every month. People are OUT OF CONTROL with their cell phones. Dale probably gets sick of me complaining about them. People just need to practice better etiquette, that’s all. Nevertheless, personally, I think they should be banned while driving and in gyms and libraries. Oh yeah, and more than once I have heard women talking on the cell phone in the bathroom stall … c’mon. I came across a great article from Microsoft. It says it all. We should all listen and learn. What did we do without cell phones?

2. Bad drivers. No doubt you will come across one every day. They are the ones you have to pass on the right. The ones who do not know where they are going. I am sure we have all been one of these ourselves. The real bad ones need to stay off the road.

3. “What, no hello?”. Like passing corvette owners, we should all give some sort of “hello” in passing. You know, where it’s one on one walking down the hallway or running on the trail. At the minimum, acknowledge the person by making eye contact. No matter what age you are or who you are. Traveling with your eyes staring at the floor is a bad habit.

4. Loud music. This one just means I am getting old.

5. Spinners and big rims. So does this one.

ND in HD Countdown

Less than 20 minutes away from kick-off. Even though Chris Fowler and his boyz came to us from ASU this morning, the ESPN prime time game of the night is ND vs. Purdue (and in high definition). Good choice. We read the article today that Charlie doesn't particularly like playing games at night. They all had to go through a much different routine today to play under the lights tonight.

ESPN did a great job today covering the emotional story on Weis and the young boy named Montana (after Joe, of course, and not Billings). If this doesn't move any of you non-ND fans out there, then you are wrong. Very touchy story. We know Charlie is a tough coach, but seeing his softer side was pretty cool and makes you want to pull for him and his team even more so.

Well, it's just about game time ... HERE COME THE IRISH.
